PDEA sees more efficient, faster public service through ICT

QUEZON CITY, April 27 – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) expects more efficient and faster delivery of public service, especially in the enforcement of Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, with the installation of new fiber optic cable in the national headquarters and regional offices.

The PDEA, the lead agency in the national anti-drug campaign, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Science and Technology-Information and Communication Technology Office (DOST-ITCO) for the implementation of the Integrated Government Philippines (iGovPhil Project), a project which aims to help address the basic needs of the government for transparency, efficiency and effective governance through Information and Communications technology (ICT).

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac Jr. said that with the agreement the network equipment provided by the ICT office will be used to connect the agency to the iGovPhil Project network.

The existing PDEA and DOST-ICTO MOA was signed last August 28, 2014. A supplemental MOA between the two agencies was signed last April 21, 2016 to include the installation of new fiber optic cable in the PDEA regional offices in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

“With this new set-up, we assure the public faster response time in the enforcement of the anti-drug law, particularly in investigating drug offenses and filing of drug cases in the courts,” Cacdac said.

The supplemental MOA was signed by Cacdac and Undersecretary Louis Napoleon C. Casambre, Executive Director, Information and Communications Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology-DOST. (PDEA)
