PDEA: Over 60 politicians in gov’t narco-list gunning for reelection in May

(Eagle News) — Over 60 politicians who figure in the government’s narco-list are gunning for reelection in the May elections, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chief Aaron Aquino said.

According to Aquino, 64, in particular, filed their certificates of candidacy for the upcoming polls.

He said there were 82 names in the narco-list.

Aquino said, however, that there may be more than the 82 engaged in illegal drug activities.

In a radio interview, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the list may be released by Interior Secretary Eduardo Año next week.

Panelo had said there was after all the need to ensure that the rights to know of the members of the public, who are expected to vote in May, were protected.

As for criticisms the release of the list would violate the rights of those who were running for office, Panelo said these candidates were already “fair game” when they decided to file their certificates of candidacy.
