CCTV — Parts of north and northwest China have experienced heavy snows and low temperatures in the past few days.

A heavy snow hit Jingtai County in northwest China’s Gansu Province on Sunday and Monday, disrupting normal life and causing losses to farmers.

The temperature plummeted eight to ten degrees Celsius as accumulated snow reached 25 centimeters in the county.

“The snow came earlier this year. It was very heavy. You can see it has broken the tree branches. As a whole, the snow is much heavier and earlier than last year,” said Lu Yousheng, a local resident.

Snow also has hit Yulin City and Yan’an City in neighboring Shaanxi Province since Monday. The temperature plummeted about 10 degrees Celsius in Yulin and on Wednesday morning, the temperature in Yan’an’s Dingbian County dropped to minus two degrees Celsius.

In northwest Beijing, its Yanqing District saw sleet Monday to Tuesday.

The average precipitation amount reached 39.5 millimeters from 04:00 Monday to 09:50 Tuesday, according to the local weather monitoring station.

The accumulated snow reached seven centimeters in Xiaohaituo Mountain, the peak of the district, according to the observation.

Xiaohaituo Mountain is one of the competition sites of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
