(Eagle News) — Malacañang on Monday, April 2, welcomed the start of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET)’s vote recount for the electoral protest of former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., development to settle the issue.
“Palace welcomes the recount para ma-settle na ‘yang long-festering dispute na ‘yan,” said Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra in a press briefing.
“Other than that this is a judicial matter, this is before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) already so we leave it to the coequal branch,” he added.
The Supreme Court on Monday started the manual recount of votes in three provinces — Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental covering 5,418 precincts.
The result of the initial recount will be the basis of the Supreme Court whether or not to proceed with the recount of Marcos’ entire protest.
The former senator on June 2016 filed a poll protest against Vice President Leni Robredo and accused her of alleged massive poll fraud in the May 2016 elections.
