Palace allays fear of public on Facebook data breach

(Eagle News) — The Philippine government allayed the public’s fears on data breach involving the social media giant Facebook.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said the government is taking the necessary action to ensure that the personal information of Filipinos are safe and secure.

“We have our domestic law, [Data] Privacy Act, and we will enforce that act. Now the data breach, as far as we know, did not occur in the Philippines. But we have taken steps,” Roque said in a press briefing on Wednesday.

Roque said that the Philippines is taking the privacy of the Filipino people very seriously.

In the Philippines, there are about 67 million Facebook accounts in the country.
