LPA, still inside Philippine Area of Responsibility

The low-pressure area that was formerly the storm “Domeng” is still inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, near Surigao del Sur, affecting Caraga and Davao region, as well as the provinces of Misamis Oriental and eastern Visayas. Metro Manila will have sunny weather with light rain showers in the afternoon. The low-pressure area is expected to dissipate during the weekends.

COMELEC targets new 13 million new voters

The Commission on Elections targets 13 million new voters to register, including those with no biometrics, on the May 16 voters registration. Comelec expects 3 million new voters to register while 9 million registered voters will undergo biometrics registration. Registered voters with no biometrics will be disenfranchised in the 2016 elections. Said registration will start on May 6, 2014 and will last until October 31, 2015.

South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius has again taken the stand to testify in his own defense at his murder trial. Pistorius has admitted shooting his girlfriend dead, but has said it was an accident. NATO tells Russia to stop massing troops along Ukraine’s border

NATO has told Russia to “stop massing” its troops on Ukraine’s border and open a “genuine dialogue.” Kyiv meanwhile has offered amnesties to pro-Russian occupiers of buildings in eastern Ukraine. WHO joins clamor to make new hepatitis C pills affordable

Trust Ratings of PNoy, Dip Despite Of High-Profile Arrest, Peace Deal

President Aquino’s trust ratings slightly dipped in the first quarter of the year, despite high-profile arrests of housing magnate Delfin Lee and a peace deal with the Moro Islamic Liberation.
