Typhoon “Nona” maintained its strength ahead of its expected landfall in Sorsogon this evening (December 14). As of 10:00 am today, the eye of typhoon “Nona” was located based on all available data, including Guiuan and Virac Doppler radars at 85 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). Nearly 8,000 people were stranded at different ports due to typhoon “Nona” with an international name Melor. According to the Philippine Coast Guards (PCG), the suspension of trips of cargoes and vessels has started at 8:00 pm yesterday, December 13. The provinces of Albay and Camarines Sur have announced class suspension on all levels for Monday, December 14, as intensified tropical storm “Nona” continues to threaten the Bicol Region and Samar provinces.
