Postponement of Barangay and SK polls okayed by both chambers of Congress

(Eagle News)– Both chambers of Congress, the Senate and House of Representatives, have agreed to move the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to 2017. The new date agreed for the polls is October 23, 2017. Majority Floor Leader Rodolfo Fariñas said in a caucus at the House of Representatives that they will file a bill postponing the elections to next year. The Senate will file their own bill as well.

Authorities release autopsy results on Odicta slay

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Police Regional Office released the results of the autopsy examination of the Odicta couple. According to the police regional office’s medico-legal officer, Dr. Qwen Lebaquin, suspected Iloilo drug lord Melvin Odicta received four gunshot wounds during the fatal ambush on the couple at the Caticlan Jetty Port. The doctor said that a bullet also hit Meriam Odicta’s spine, instantly killing her.

Updated ‘Tokhang’ data shows deflated number of surrenderees

(Eagle News)– An updated data provided by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday showed that there are fewer drug users/pushers who surrendered under Oplan Tokhang than earlier reports. From 673, 978 (August 23) surrenderees, this number was reduced to 626,556 (August 30). 585,473 were drug users while 41,083 were pushers.
