The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, of tectonic origin, hit 85 kilometers southwest of Sarangani at 6:43 a.m. Depth of focus was 87 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, Aug. 7, visited the kin of the victims in the Iloilo-Guimaras sea tragedy. Each family received P50,000 from Duterte himself when he visited the Gegato Abecia funeral home in Iloilo City. At least 31 were killed after motorboats M/B Chi-Chi, M/B Keziah and M/B Jenny Vince capsized on Saturday, reportedly due to strong waves and winds. The Maritime Industry Authority is conducting a probe into the incident.
