(Eagle News)–The bicameral conference panel approved on Wednesday, Dec. 11, the report on the proposed P4.1-trillion national budget for next year. The signing took place at the Manila Polo Club in Makati. The report will be presented to the Senate and House of Representatives for ratification, after which it will be sent to President Rodrigo Duterte, who can either sign it or veto it. (Eagle News)–The Philippines women’s basketball team made history on Tuesday, Dec. 10, after winning the country’s first-ever gold medal in the biennial sports event. The Filipino players routed Thailand with a 91-71 blowout at the Mall of Asia Arena. Jack Animam and Janine Pontejos led the Philippines’ offense against Thailand led by Tiffany Bias. Indonesia copped the bronze after defeating 2017 gold medalist Malaysia, 70-59.
(Eagle News) — The Philippines’ men’s volleyball team clinched the silver medal on Tuesday, Dec. 10, after a loss to Indonesia. The Filipinos trailed the Indonesians in three sets– 25-21, 27-25, 25-17—despite best efforts and loud cheers from the mostly Filipino crowd. The Philippine team lost to their Southeast Asian neighbor after an upset over powerhouse Thailand over the weekend. This was the Philippines’ first finals appearance in decades.
