(Eagle News) – Only 76 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the past day bringing the total cases in the country so far to 3,094, with five additional recoveries as of Saturday, April 4,  according to the Department of Health.

The additional cases reported in the past 24 hours were way below the previous 385 cases added on Friday, April 3 that brought the total to 3,018 – the first time that the country breached the 3,000 mark.

There were also eight new fatalities reported as of 4 p.m., Saturday, April 4, bringing the total COVID-19 related deaths to 144, from the previous 136.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire also reported five additional patients who recovered from the disease, bringing the total patient recoveries to 57.

The DOH official said the country’s testing capability for COVID-19 has increased.

Presently, the country can do up to 1,200 tests per day because of additional laboratories testing for COVID-19.

By April 14, the country would be able to test up to 3,000 per day, and by the end of the month, testing capacity could range from 8,000 to 10,000 per day, Vergeire said.

This will result in the early isolation and treatment of cases, as well as wider contact-tracing to prevent the further spread of the disease.
