Online celebration of Philippines-Australia Friendship Day on May 22

(Eagle News) – The Australian Embassy in the Philippines marked this year’s Philippines-Australia Friendship day on May 22 via an online celebration, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This online celebration is also an opportunity for us to thank frontliners who have been delivering assistance to the COVID-19 response”, Australian Ambassador Steven J. Robinson AO said in a statement.

The celebration will also be an opportunity to show gratitude to “national and local government units who have provided assistance to Australian tourists who have been stranded in the Philippines.”

As part of the celebration, the Embassy hosted on May 21 and 22 a free online screening from Flickerfest, Australia’s only Academy Award accredited and BAFTA recognized Short Film festival.

There will also be a “Taste of Australia” experience, where online retailers will share Australian-made and grown products that Filipinos can enjoy from the comforts of their home.

Ambassador Robinson invited the public to join the online celebration by using and following the hashtag #FilAussieDay, and follow the Australian Embassy’s social media accounts.

“Australia and the Philippines are close friends. We enjoy broad cooperation in trade, development, defence and security”, the Ambassador said.

Over 300,000 Filipinos are currently living in Australia. Likewise, close to 20,000 Filipinos go to Australia each year for studies and training.
