Ombudsman suspends Mayor Binay

The Office of the Ombudsman ordered a six-month preventive suspension of Makati Mayor Junjun Binay in connection to the issue of the Makati City Hall Building 2.

The suspension will be in force while the investigation continues.

Aside from Binay, six other Makati City government officials are suspended as the preliminary investigations of their ongoing charges are ongoing: malversation, falsification and violation of Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and the Government Procurement Reform Act.

Binay faces charges of graft and malversation of public funds due to the irregularities in the bidding and construction of the car park building in Makati, which only amounts to P245.56 million but was jacked up to P1.56 billion.
