Nueva Ejica RTC sets pre-trial of large-scale illegal recruitment case vs. Veloso’s recruiters

MANILA, Sept. 7 (PNA) — The Baloc Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 37 in Nueva Ecija has set the pre-trial of the large-scale illegal recruitment against Maria Cristina Sergio and her live-in partner Julius Lacanilao on Sept. 18.

The case involves the complaint filed by the three townmates of Mary Jane Veloso, who was also allegedly a victim of illegal recruitment committed by Sergio and Lacanilao.

Atty. Edre Olalia, lawyer of Veloso, asked the RTC to also conduct the arraignment for the case of qualified human trafficking filed by Veloso against Sergio and Lacanilao on the said date.

Meanwhile, Olalia said that the House Committee on Overseas Migrant Affairs has already submitted the petition to recall the current Philippine consul general to Jakarta, Indonesia, Roberto Manalo because of the complaint that he allegedly did not provide assistance to Filipinos who are pursuing the legal aspect of the case of Veloso.

Veloso was supposed to be executed by firing squad last April 29 for drug trafficking in Indonesia, but was granted a temporary reprieve following the surrender and subsequent arrest of Sergio and Lacanilao. (PNA/PTRaymundo)
