NLEX to be temporarily shut down for 21 world leaders who will attend ASEAN Summit

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) will be placed on temporary lockdown for the use of the 21 world leaders who will be attending the 31st Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) Summit and related meetings in November in Clark, Pampanga.

This was according to National Capital Region Police Office Director Oscar Albayalde.

The temporary lockdown will affect the southbound lane of the NLEX from Clark, Pampanga to Metro Manila, for a “few minutes” or every time that the world leaders would pass through the NLEX lane to get to their hotels in Metro Manila.

The 21 world leaders who will attend the ASEAN Summit will arrive in Clark International Airport going to Metro Manila starting Nov. 10 to 12.

“They will travel to NLEX, from Clark to Manila so there will be a temporary lockdown when they travel,” Albayalde said.

“The NLEX will be temporarily closed and after a few minutes when they get past NLEX, it will be opened right away,” he added.

He said the temporary lockdown would also be done when the world leaders travel back to Clark for their departure after the ASEAN Summit on November 14.

“They’ll travel the NLEX, isa ‘yun, from Clark to Manila. So, there will be a temporary lockdown when they travel,” Albayalde said.

“Clear lahat ‘yun. No movement, no movement ‘yun. Yes. It will be partially locked down, yes. Stop lahat ‘yun. Stop lahat ‘yun. And all the toll gates, walang lalabas doon,” he added.
