NIA manager faces raps for not declaring biz in SALN

(Eagle News)–National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region X manager Julius Maquiling faces criminal charges for failing to declare his trucking business in his 2009 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).

He was charged by the Office of the Ombudsman perjury and violation of Section 8(a) of Republic Act No. 6713, also known as The Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

In a probe conducted by the Ombudsman, Maquiling is the owner of JS Maquiling Marketing, which contradicts his statement that he owns no businesses.

Maquiling on the other hand defended his self and said that he did not declare it because he thought that a business must be regular, continuous and habitual in order to be declared in SALN.

The Ombudsman said his defense is contradicted by the income statement and an annual tax income return he filed at Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
