Today marks the first anniversary of the China Studies Center of the School of International Relations at New Era University (NEU).
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian was the guest of honor on this occasion. The Chinese envoy hopes for more success for the school in the coming years. Ambassador Huang also mentioned that it is inevitable for neighboring countries like China and the Philippines to have misunderstandings and disputes.
But what’s important, he said, is to resolve them through dialogue and not through provocation. “This is not only a proven way to get along with neighboring countries and part of our Asian values featuring peace cooperation inclusiveness and integration,” said Ambassador Huang Xilian.
According to Dr. Carlos Tabunda Jr., Dean of the School of International Relations, since the launch of the China Studies Center, they have conducted a series of activities to further promote friendly relations between the Philippines and China.
Among the programs launched by the Study Center are short courses in the Mandarin Language.
Dr. Tabunda also stated that the NEU China Studies Center is ready to open discussions and dialogue between the two countries.
This is especially true since the relationship between the Philippines and China is not very good at the moment due to “political tensions.”
Dr. Tabunda also assured that despite the challenges in the relationship between China and the Philippines, the NEU China Studies Center remains open and will continue to be a friend of the Chinese Embassy and China.
“We at New Era University China Studies Center still aim to foster better people-to-people relationship.”
