NCR still the region with most no. of active cases at over 11k, according to DOH data
(Eagle News) – New COVID-19 cases continued to rise as 7,228 new infections were reported on Sunday, June 6. This brought the number of total active cases to 59,997, or 4.7 percent of the total number of confirmed cases (1,269,478).
On Saturday, June 5, there were 6,955 new Covid cases reported. It was even higher at 7,450 new cases on Friday, June 4.
Covid-19 deaths added on Sunday were 166, bringing total coronavirus fatalities to 21,898. This is the third straight day that the number of fatalities compared to total cases was at 1.72 percent. It is also important to note that the Philippines have been reporting more than 100 Covid deaths daily since May 26.
New recoveries were at 7,372, bringing the total of those who recovered from the infection at 1,188,243 – or 93.6 percent of total confirmed cases.
Of the total active cases, 95.9 percent are mild or asymptomatic.
Based on the Beat Covid situationer of the Department of Health dated June 4, Calabarzon or Region 4-A is the region with the highest number of new cases at 1,169; followed by Metro Manila with 1,118 cases; Central Luzon with 703 cases; Western Visayas with 695 cases; and Northern Mindanao with 539 new cases.
The top region with active cases remain to be Metro Manila at 11,154, followed by CALABARZON at 8,783; Central Luzon with 7,552 cases; Western Visayas with 5,252 cases; and Cagayan Valley with 3,545 cases.
The next five top regions with active cases are Davao region with 2,810 cases; Soccsksargen (previously Central Mindanao) with 2,440 cases; Central Visayas with 2,256 cases; and Zamboanga Peninsula with 2,145 cases.
-Visayas and Mindanao cases report highest percentage of active cases-
Metro Manila, however, only has 2.17 percent active cases and it is still in Mindanao and the Visayas regions which have the highest percentage of active cases compared to their total confirmed cases: Davao region has 9.18 percent active cases; Western Visayas has 9.91 percent active cases; Zamboanga Peninsula has 10.13 percent active cases; Norhern Mindanao as 12.28 percent active cases;
