NEU Hunters bag BBI championship after beating Ateneo Blue Eagles, 93-84

(Eagle News) — The new Era University Hunters bagged the 2019 Breakdown Basketball Invitiational (BBI) Alcatel Summer League after beating Ateneo De Manila University’s Blue Eagles, 93-84.

The win at the game’s overtime at the Ateneo’s homecourt avenged a prior loss at the hands of the Blue Eagles.

During the July 13 championship game, NEU forced a tie at the end of regulation time against Ateneo after Finals MVP Jefferson Comia of NEU made a clutch play, and sank two pressure packed free throws.

The NEU Hunters then took control of the game until the 93-84 win.

“Part of the team’s success was the battle-hardened strategizing of Coach Adonis Tierra, who tightened his rotation to nine players. Both Comia and Joel Gonzallo had 22 points, with the latter adding 10 rebounds to his overall excellence, and punctuating the game with a thunderous dunk,” according to a write-up of the game from the NEU Information Office published on the NEU website.
