NCR is region with most fresh cases this week; Cebu City, QC are cities with most COVID cases this week

(Eagle News) — Metro Manila is the region with the most COVID-19 cases, while Cebu City and Quezon City topped the list of cities in terms of positive cases in the country this week, according to the Department of Health.

This came about as the number of coronavirus infections in the country surpassed 30,000 with more than 20,000 considered active cases.

Total COVID-19 cases as of Sunday, June 21, reached 30,052, while active cases as of June 20 hit 20,600.

In Metro Manila which is under General Community Quarantine (GCQ), the total confirmed infections this week reached 1,163, while Central Visayas had 937 fresh cases this week alone.

Eastern Visayas or Region 8 followed with 151 fresh cases, followed by CALABARZON or Region 4-A with 103 fresh cases; Cordillera Administrative Region with 33 fresh cases; and Northern Mindanao with 24 fresh cases.

It should be noted that Metro Manila, Central Visayas (except for Cebu City and Talsay City), and CALABARZON are under GCQ, while Eastern Visayas, CAR and Northern Mindanao are under modified GCQ which have more relaxed community quarantine protocols.

The DOH said that Cebu City topped Philippines in terms of COVID-19 fresh cases this week at 584 fresh cases, followed by Quezon City with 153 fresh cases. Next is Mandaue City with 105 fresh cases; Manila with 95 fresh cases; and Lapu-Lapu City with 78 cases.

The DOH said that as of Sunday, June 20, fresh cases added to the day’s tally were 415, with 219 coming from Metro Manila alone, and 89 from Central Visayas or Region 7.

Late cases added were 238, with 177 coming from Central Visayas, and 32 from Metro Manila.

Nineteen deaths were also added bringing the total COVID-19 fatalities to 1,169. The DOH said that 15 deaths occurred from June 3 to 16.

Total COVID-19 recoveries meanwhile reached 7,893 with 243 recoveries reported on Sunday, June 21.
