(Eagle News) – Navy Vice Commander Rear Admiral Allan Ferdinand Cusi has been named as the new Superintendent Officer-in-Charge of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) following the courtesy resignation of its former head, Lt. Gen. Ronnie Evangelista.

Philippine Army 103rd Brigade Brig. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr was also named the acting commandant of the cadet corps, replacing Brig. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro who had also resigned following the death due to maltreatment of Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio.

The new PMA heads were named by new Armed Forces chief Lt. Gen. Noel Clement.

Cusi was the former Naval Education, Training and Doctrine Command (NETDC) chief, while Brawner had also served as spokesperson of the Joint Task Force Marawi at the height of the military campaign against Islamic State-linked militants involved in the Marawi City siege in 2017.

Cusi and Brawner are expected to implement stricter measures to prevent hazing deaths in the future.

Dormitorio died on Sept. 18 from cardiac arrest secondary to internal injuries due to supposed maltreatment inside the PMA.

At least 3 more PMA cadets were hospitalized due to suspected hazing inside the premier military school.
