My long overdue review of “Captain America: Civil War”

QUEZON City, Philippines (May 27) – “Captain America: Civil War” is one of the most-awaited films of 2016. That said, take away the cool special effects and spectacular action scenes and you have a mildly-entertaining film that can be summarized like this: “He is my best friend and I will take his side no matter what!”

Did I mention that this review will be full of spoilers?

Our favorite superhero team is thrown into a dilemma after a mission in a foreign country resulted in a fiasco where hundreds die. In response, the international community argued that the Avengers should be under the oversight of the United Nations.

Good luck with that, UN!

And that became the central issue of the film as the Avengers split right in the middle, each side having different views regarding the matter.

Complicating matters is the appearance of the Winter Soldier  or Bucky to his friends. Is he the one behind the attack or is he innocent? Captain America is so sure about his innocence that he is willing to fight his teammates to ensure the safety of his best friend.

The inclusion of new and old characters from other franchises is a nice touch. The new Spiderman and Ant-man cracked me up with their snarky attitude.

Finally, one learns that it does not take much to break apart a superhero team. One only needs determination, attention to detail and careful planning – values that we can apply to our everyday life to attain our goals.

With the continued success of Avengers franchise and its associated characters, rest assured that more movies featuring them will be made.
