MRT-3 trains resume normal operations

MANILA, Aug. 24 (PNA) — The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 resumed its normal operations Sunday morning following the restoration of its communications system.

MRT spokesperson Hernando Cabrera said via Twitter that train operations resumed Sunday at 4:40 a.m. after being suspended beginning around noontime Saturday due to safety reasons.

“MRT-3 communications system restored, will resume operations today at 4:30 a.m.,” Cabrera Tweeted.

Management had to suspend operations Saturday due to the reported failure of the MRT-3’s communications system, he said.

According to Cabrera, two-way continuous and constant communications between train operators and the control center is a vital safety feature of MRT and Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems.

He said that without proper two-way communications, the trains cannot operate for safety reasons. (Philippine News Agency)
