More than 61 million Filipinos troop to polling precincts today; voting from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Comelec urges public to report incidents of vote-buying

(Eagle News) – Some 61.8 million Filipinos are expected to troop to polling precincts nationwide for the May 13, 2019 midterm elections which starts at 6 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged voters to go out and vote and report incidents of vote-buying.

There are 43,554 national and local candidates vying for 18,071 positions for this elections — from senator to city or municipal councilor.

Comelec said that 62 candidates are running for the 12 Senate senates, while 134 party-list groups are running to get the 61 party-list seats available in the House of Representatives.

A total of 633 congressional candidates, on the other, are running to get the other seats in the House of Representatives for the 244 district representatives.

The total number of registered voters in the country reached 61,843,750 with Cebu listed as the most vote-rich province in the country with about 3.08 million voters.

This is followed by Cavite, with 2.15 million voters, Pangasinan with 1.95 million voters, Laguna with 1.90 million voters, and Negros Occidental with 1.89 million voters.

Quezon City is the most vote-rich city in the country with 1.3 million voters. This is followed by Manila with 1.07 million voters, Davao City with 984,064 voters, Caloocan City with 719,447 voters, and Cebu City with 709,608 voters.

Starting 6 a.m., voters can go to the 36,830 voting centers nationwide to cast their votes through more than 85,000 Vote Counting Machines or VCMs.

Voting ends at exactly 6 p.m.

Comelec, however, said that voters within the 30-meter vicinity of their polling place can still vote even beyond the 6 p.m. deadline.
