In preparing for ASEAN Integration, one of the factors that governments of ASEAN member states need to consider is the preparation and level of awareness of local government units (LGUs) to the ASEAN Integration.
In this episode, Dr. Caloy Tabunda of the Development Academy of the Philippines and ASEAN In Focus resident resource person interviews Angeles City Mayor Ed Pamintuan to get his insights on the level of awareness and how should LGUs prepare for ASEAN Integration. Mayor Pamintuan was awarded 8th Best Mayor in the Biennial World Mayors Program (WMP) for 2012. He was one of four Asians and the only Filipino in the final 25 of the WMP.
His city where he served as mayor, Angeles City, is a first-class highly urbanized city located geographically within the province of Pampanga, but it administers itself autonomously from Pampanga.
According to WMP’s website, Pamintuan was chosen as an awardee in 2012 for his “specific achievements, including being the first mayor to built a city college providing low-cost education; the planting of 200,000 trees with help from volunteers, which apparently will help stop the flooding; the cleaning of major drainages and for modernizing the city hospital, including installing dialysis facilities.”
