MMDA announces 60 kph speed limit for EDSA, other major roads in Metro Manila

(Eagle News) – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has set a maximum speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour along EDSA and other major roads in a new rule where violators will be fined P1,000.

The measure, Regulation No. 19-00 is aimed to prevent vehicular accidents in major thoroughfare in Metro Manila which “can be largely attributed to over speeding.”

“Said vehicular accidents cause needless loss of innocent lives and damage to property which necessitate the immediate adoption of a speed limit for all motor vehicles, except buses and trucks,” the new MMDA rule said.

The circumferential roads where this will be implemented are the following: Recto Avenue; President Quirino Ave; Araneta Avenue; EDSA, CP Garcia Avenue; Southeast Metro Manila Expressway.

The radial roads affected are Roxas Boulevard, Taft Avenue, South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Shaw Boulevard, Ortigas Avenue, Magsaysay Boulevard/Auroro Boulevard, Quezon Avenue/Commonwealth Avenue, A. Bonifacio Avenue, Rizal Avenue, and Del Pan/Marcos Highway/McArthur Highway.

The new regulation was announced on Friday, April 5.
