MILF to decommission firearms on June 16

MANILA, Philippines, June 15 (Eagle News) — Starting June 16 (Tuesday), the first batch of decommissioning of firearms of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will take place in Maguindanao as part of attaining the peace process and “a strong commitment to end the armed conflict”.

According to Philippine National Police Officer-in-charge (PNP-OIC) Police Chief Supt. Wilfredo Franco said “decommissioning” of firearms of the MILF was part of strengthening ties between the Government and the MILF’s peace agreement.

The newly appointed PNP Chief also said that the PNP was hopeful that said decommissioning of weapons of combatants of the MILF was a step of attaining lasting peace in Mindanao.
