WASHINGTON, DC, United States (Reuters) – U.S. first lady Michelle Obama held her annual garden planting activity at the White House on Tuesday (April 5).

Mrs. Obama invited students from nearby schools to help with the last planting season before her husband leaves office early next year.

“I want to take this time to thank all the kids here and all the kids around the country who have been a part of this garden. This is my baby,” she said, adding that she hoped it would continue under future administrations.

The event brought back some of the children who originally helped the first lady create the garden around seven years ago. The students, now in high school, assisted the other children as they planted several garden beds with various vegetables.

“All right, let’s move! Let’s plant! Let’s get it done,” Obama said as they took to planting.

Among the guests at the White House was NASA astronaut Cady Coleman. A bed of chinese cabbage was planted for NASA, which will later be taken to the International Space Station (ISS).

The first lady congratulated the group on a job well done before posing for a group photo.
