Mar Roxas files COC as Liberal Party senatorial bet

(Eagle News) — Former presidential aspirant Manuel “Mar” Roxas II who lost to President Rodrigo Duterte in the May 2016 national elections filed his certificate of candidacy to run as a senatorial bet in the May 2019 elections.

Roxas filed his COC past 8 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) main office in Intramuros, Manila.

Roxas will be running under the Liberal Party (LP).

He had previously served as secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry from 2000 to 2003, and as Senator from 2004 to 2010. He also served as the Transportation and Communications Secretary from 2011 to 2012.

He was later appointed as Secretary of Interior and Local Government on August 31, 2012. During his term as DILG secretary, the controversial Mamasapano massacre happened in January 2015 while he was heading the Department of Interior and Local Government under the Aquino administration.
