Manila Water says sending water rations to hospitals is its “top priority”

(Eagle News) – Hospitals in the areas supplied by Manila Water Company will be prioritized and be rationed with water through tankers that will go to their areas, according to a top official of the water concessionaire.

Manila Water chief operating officer Geodino Carpio made the assurance after he was personally visited by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III on Tuesday, March 12.

“Just this morning, I was so happy that Secretary Duque actually went to my office,” he said.

“I was so impressed. Where do you find a secretary like that who is so concerned about his constituents?” he said.

Carpio said Duque explained to him how important it was for hospitals to get enough water supply for their operations.

He then assured the health chief that Manila Water will be sending water to hospitals after computing their needs.

“Our top priority are hospitals,” he said.

“We made some calculations,” Carpio said, citing the case of Rizal Medical Center in Bagong Ilog, Pasig which was recently severely affected by the water interruptions.

“We got the monthly consumption. We are now looking at the daily consumption. We are now assigning some tankers to Rizal Medical Center,” Carpio said.

He also revealed a water-sharing agreement Manila Water had with Maynilad that will allow its water resources to be used to temporarily address the water supply and distribution of Manila Water which has severely affected its areas, particularly Metro Manila’s East Zone.
