(Eagle News) – Manila Water Corporation announced more water service interruptions in Metro Manila and Rizal following declining water levels in La Mesa dam.

In its facebook and twitter posts at 3 p.m., Manila Water announced water interruptions on Monday, March 11, affecting Quezon City, Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Makati, Pateros, and parts of Paranaque in Metro Manila.

It also announced water disruptions in Antipolo, Jalajala, Rodriguez, San Mateo, Teresa, Angono, Binangonan, Taytay and Cainta in Rizal.

-Apology-
Manila Water, on Friday, issued an apology to the public for “the invonvenience brought by the unexpected water service interruption experienced” by their customers across the East Zone.

“We released announcements last Monday that we will implement operational adjustments that may result in low pressure to no water in certain areas. This is to address the continued decline in the water level at La Mesa Dam due to minimal inflows,” it said in a statement.

Manila Water explained that the list of affected barangays which it had earlier released “was developed from simulations made by our water supply team based on pressure reduction in some areas.”

“However, the actual customer experience was different from simulations as an artificial increase in demand was created when people started storing water, even in areas not supposed to be affected,” it said.

It said that their reservoirs were “not completely filled” in the process last week.

“This affected barangays in Quezon City, Mandaluyong City, San Juan City, and Pasig City,” it said.
Manila water said that it is trying to augment supply to their reservoirs to bring back water service to affected areas.

In the meantime, it urged customers to “use water more responsibly and wisely in light of the weak El Niño we are currently experiencing and the rapid decline of water levels at La Mesa Dam.”

“We appeal for your understanding,” its statement added.
