(Eagle News) — Manila City mayor Isko Moreno wants to ban e-tricycles in his city as these vehicles only “generate chaos.”
He said he has already ordered these e-tricycles to be “pulled out” in Manila.
The mayor announced this after the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that battery operated e-tricycles were classified as “toys”
Moreno said that even the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) could not regulate these vehicles as they are not considered motorized vehicles.
“Ako pinapa-pull out ko na. We will pull it out kasi it generates chaos,” he told reporters after a meeting with other Metro Manila mayors.
“‘Yung LTFRB binigyan ng prebiliheyo na makapag-hanap buhay ‘yung jeepney driver tapos inagawan ng pasahero ng e-trike na walang prangkisa pero may pagkilala ng lokal [na pamahalaan],” he said.
Moreno said it was MMDA chair Danilo Lim himself who wanted Metro Manila mayors to look into the proliferation of e-tricycles which are not under the scope of LTFRB but are plying various routes even if they don’t have a franchise.
Around 300 e-tricycles would be affected in Manila with his latest directive.
