President Aquino has directed Secretary Albert del Rosario to ensure the safety of Filipinos in Thailand following the declaration of Martial Law by the Thai Army. We note the DFA statement that the Philippines is closely monitoring the political developments in Thailand.
In the recently concluded ASEAN Summit in Myanmar, the Philippines supported the Philippines supported the joint statement of the Foreign Ministers calling for a peaceful resolution to the on-going challenge in Thailand through dialogue and observance of democratic principles and the rule of law.
According to the DFA, it has raised the Alert Level in Thailand from 1 to 2. Under Alert Level 2, Filipinos in Bangkok and the surrounding areas are instructed to restrict non-essential movements, avoid public places, and prepare for possible evacuation when necessary.
