LTFRB suspends Uber’s accreditation and operations for 1 month

(Eagle News) — The Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board on Monday, August 14, suspended for one month the accreditation and operations of Uber as it criticized the ride-sharing company for its alleged “predatory actions.”

“In an order dated 14 August 2017, the board meted out the penalty of one month suspension on the accreditation of Uber System, Inc. and was ordered to cease and desist its operation of their online booking application during the period of suspension,” LTFRB said in its public advisory.

It said the order was to take effect immediately.

The LTFRB also “strongly recommended” that Uber “extend financial assistance to its affected peer-operators during the period of suspension.”

This, LTFRB said, should serve “as an expression of good faith as their accredited peer-operators would not have suffered current predicament were it not for the predatory actions of respondent Uber.”

The Metro Manila Development Authority, Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group, and Land Transportation Office were also given copies of the LTFRB order for their “enforcement.”
