LRT-2 ops suspended after rectifier catches fire in Katipunan station

(Eagle News)–Light Rail Transit-2 operations were suspended on Thursday, Oct. 3, after a “rectifier” in the Katipunan station caught fire.

Atty. Hernando Cabrera, LRT-2 spokesperson, said in an interview over radio dzbb that a rectifier is like a “transformer” which serves like a “power surge protector.”

“Pag nasisira, of course  mawawalan ng power supply. So buong linya di na mapapatakbo,” Cabrera said, noting that the cause of the incident had yet to be determined.

According to Cabrera,   commuters were told to get off the train around 11:30 a.m.   to ensure their safety.

He said they were looking at restoring operations at least from Recto to Cubao or from Recto to Anonas stations “depending on considerations.”

“Yun ang dalawang tinitignan na pwedeng gawin,” he said.
