LRT-2 ops from Cubao to Recto and back to resume tomorrow, Oct. 8

(Eagle News)–The Light Rail Transit-2 will resume operations from Cubao to Recto and back tomorrow, October 8.

The Light Rail Transit Authority said operations will start at 6 a.m. and will end at 8:30 p.m. from Cubao and 9 p.m. from Recto.

The LRTA said commercial operations need to start late and close early to give way to maintenance work.

“We appeal to our passengers to allot an additional hour for their journeys since speed restrictions and a limited number of trains will be fielded to ensure passenger safety and the sufficiency of the power supply coming from the remaining rectifier substations,” LRTA Administrator Gen. Reynaldo Berroya said.

At present, the tracks from Santolan to Anonas and vice versa remain unpassable and the power supply and signaling systems are still down.

Starting tomorrow, point-to-point buses will be fielded at Masinag, Emerald and Santolan stations to and from Legarda, the LRTA said.

Forty modernized Public Utility Vehicles will be deployed to ferry passengers from Santolan to Legarda while a bus service loop will also be available at Santolan, Katipunan, Anonas and Cubao.

The LRTA said PUVs and buses will operate from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

A flat rate of P15 from Santolan to Cubao and P25 from Masinag to Legarda will be charged.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and the Philippine Coast Guard, the LRTA said, will continue to provide free bus rides to affected LRT-2 passengers daily, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Santolan to Cubao and back.

Berroya gave the assurance the LRTA will do its best to restore the full operations of the LRT-2 system from six to nine months.

Earlier, the LRTA had to suspend LRT-2 operations after a rectifier near Katipunan station caught fire.
