LPA east of Catanduanes develops into tropical depression Hanna; monsoon rains still to affect country

(Eagle News) – The low pressure area east of Virac, Catanduanes has developed into a tropical depression named “Hanna”, according to PAGASA’s weather bulletin.

But Hanna “is less likely to make landfall on any part of the country,” the PAGASA update said.

At 3:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Depression “Hanna” was estimated based on all available data at°1,095 km East of Infanta, Quezon (15.7°N, 131.8°E) with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of 70 kph.

It is moving West Northwest at 15 kph.

PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon is also still affecting Luzon and Western Visayas.

Today, August 4, moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Metro Manila, Zambales, Pangasinan, Bataan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro provinces, northern Palawan, Romblon, Aklan, and Antique.

Meanwhile, light to moderate to at times heavy rains will be experienced over the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

Residents in the aforementioned areas, especially those living in areas identified to be at risk of flooding and landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the Thunderstorm Advisories and Heavy Rainfall Warnings to be issued by PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.

Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the western seaboard of Luzon, PAGASA said.
