SICHUAN Province, southwest China (Reuters) — A total of six giant panda cubs were born in succession from four different giant pandas within a week at the Wolong Giant Panda Reserve in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
The giant pandas namely “Jun Zhu”, “Qing Qing”, “Hai Zi” and “Zhen Zhen” gave births to two twins and two singles from July 23 till July 30.
“Followed by giant panda ‘Jun Zhu’ giving birth on July 23, four other giant pandas gave birth. In total six panda cubs were born – two twins and two singles; making it two female and four male cubs,” said Li Desheng, an expert from the Wolong Giant Panda Reserve.
According to Li, about 20 giant panda cubs were born each year over the past two years, while this year 21 giant panda babies have been given birth and some more are expected soon.
Li reveals that giant pandas “Jin Xin”, “Ye Ye”, “Min Min” are expected to give births August onward.
