Even if you haven’t watched the film yet, you are probably aware of the big recognition the film has earned in the movie industry.  From the set design to the song-and-dance choreography – you will know that they put so much effort to make one of the most iconic and unforgettable movie on the silver screen.

Before we go on, here’s a timely spoiler alert.

Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, the man who directed the equally beautiful musically-inclined film Whiplash, La La Land is about two people with different personalities but share the same goal in life, to reach the desires of their hearts.  Set in the wild city of Los Angeles California, Mia played by Stone is a striving performing artist, who wants to make it great in the show business, while Sebastian played by Gosling is a jazz musician who’s trying to find his niche in a world which seems to have forgotten the beauty of the music he plays.

You may think it’s just one of the boy-meets-girl-and-fell-in-love-romantic-but-cliché film, but it is totally not. Somewhere between success and failure, victory and defeat and happiness and sorrow, Mia and Sebastian will find themselves in each other. This is more than just a love story. This is more of life’s reality, love on its most selfless form and believing in the magic of your dreams. It also perfected the use of seasons of the year which are winter; spring, summer and fall, to at least set the mood of the scenes that people are about to witness.  Furthermore, the incorporation of music in the film is the highlight of it.

And with the Oscars just around the corner, the list of nominations was already made public, and – what do you know –  La La Land once again dominated the list. The movie is currently tied with the Titanic and All About Eve for having the most nominations in the history of The Academy Awards. To name a few, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are both nominated for their lead roles, Damien Chazelle for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original song, Best Picture, Best Costume design, and Best original score. We’re hoping that Ryan and Emma will not suffer the same fate as Leonardo and Kate on the Academy Awards on 1998.

So if you haven’t watched the LaLa Land yet, make sure to see it before the 89th Academy Awards airs on February 26.
