Keep your eyes healthy!

EyesQUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News Service, July 24) – The eyes is our major sensory organ, with most of the information that our brains process coming in visual form. That is why we should keep our eyes healthy and our eyesight in good condition.

First step in taking care of our eyes is through diet. Omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc and Vitamins C and E are optimal for warding-off eye conditions like macular degeneration and cataracts.fatty acids

Food rich in said nutrients include salmon, tuna and other oily fish, dark green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale, eggs, nuts, beans, orange and other citrus fruits and drinks.

Another reason to avoid lighting up a cigarette is that substances found in them can actually harm our eyes. So, if you want to have healthy eyes, quit smoking or better yet, never start a smoking habit in the first place. No smoking

Wearing sunglasses is not just a fashion choice, it is also good for our eyes. Studies show that ultra-violet rays can harm our eyes, so it is good to wear sunglasses to protect them from the sun’s glare.Sunglasses

ComputerStaring too long at a computer screen can cause a lot of problems so better follow the 20/20/20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look at an object that is 20 feet away from your computer and stare at it for 20 seconds. Also, every 2 hours, step away from your computer and take a 15-minute break.

Finally, visit your ophthalmologist regularly to spot problems early on.
