FARMVILLE, United States (AFP) — Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican Mike Pence quickly launched attacks on presidential nominees Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton on Wednesday (October 4) at a debate between the two vice presidential contenders.
“I’ll just say this. We trust Hillary Clinton, my wife and I, and we trust her with the most important thing in our life. We have a son deployed overseas in the Marine Corp right now,” said Kaine in his opening remarks. “We trust Hillary Clinton as commander in chief, but the thought of Donald Trump as commander in chief scares us to death.”
Kaine also said he was proud to be Hillary Clinton’s running mate, drawing parallel’s to Barbara Johns, who made history when she protested segregation at her high school.
“I’m proud because her vision of ‘stronger together’, building an economy that works for all not just those at the top, being safe in the world not only with a strong military but also with a strong alliances to battle terrorism and climate change, and also build a community of respect just like Barbara Johns tried to do, 65 years ago,” said the Democratic U.S. senator.
Kaine wasted no time in launching an attack on his running mate’s Republican rival, Donald Trump.
