(Eagle News) — Typhoon Ompong made landfall at 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, in Baggao, Cagayan, according to the country’s weather bureau, PAGASA.
Ompong even had stronger gust winds at 285 kilometers per hour when it made landfall, and also moved faster west northwest at 35 kph, compared to the previous movement of 30 kph, according to PAGASA’s latest advisory issued at 2 a.m., Sept. 15.
Before this, Ompong was moving west northwest at 30 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 205 kph and gusts of up to 255 kph.
The typhoon was located at 90 kilometers east northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan as of 1 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.
PAGASA said the possible Storm surge height in surge prone areas is up to 6 meters in Cagayan and Ilocos Norte; and up to 2 meters in Isabela and Ilocos Sur.
PAGASA expects typhoon Ompong to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility later tonight, Saturday.
