Jeepney operators thank LTFRB for Php1 fare hike; P10 minimum fare for PUJs set in November

(Eagle News) – A group of jeepney operators and drivers on Thursday thanked the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for its decision approving the proposed Php1 fare hike that will set the minimum jeepney fare from the current P9 to P10 starting November.

Zeny Maranan, President of Federation of Jeepney operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (FEJODAP) said the one peso fare increase would already be a big help to the jeepney drivers.

She thanked LTFRB chair Martin Delgra III for approving the additional P1 fare hike, even as she clarified to the riding public that the implementation of the fare hike would start in the first week of November.

“Medyo nabuksan na siguro yung kaisipan ni Chairman at kasamahan kaya kami ay nagpapasalamat sa kanila. Gusto ko naman ipaalam sa ating mga mananakay na hindi pa po kami authorized na magbigay kaagad ng dagdag piso pa ulit, na maningil ng sampung piso. Kailangan mai-public pa ho ito, siguro mga November 2 pa ho bago pa iyan masimulan,” she said in an interview with NET 25’s Agila Balita.

On Wednesday, LTFRB granted the petition for the fare increase but reminded the drivers and operations that it must not impose the new jeepney fare yet as it has yet to release an official copy of the decision.

“The Board hereby resolves to grant the petition for a fare increase, to make permanent the provisional increase of PHP1 granted on July 6, 2018 and an additional PHP1 for the first four kilometers or a minimum fare of PHP10 from the original fare of PHP8,” LTFRB decision read.

“Please be informed that the LTFRB will release an official copy once the document is signed by the LTFRB Executive Director and marked as docketed. We request drivers to wait until the LTFRB releases the official document on the fare hike before charging any additional fare,” the LTFRB said in a statement.
