The Japanese government on Tuesday (October 3) said it is unaware of any information at this point corroborating Las Vegas sheriffs comments earlier that the long-time girlfriend of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock is in Tokyo.

Marilou Danley, 62, is believed to be an Australian citizen born in the Philippines and possibly visiting relatives in the Philippines at the time of the shooting, though U.S. authorities now believe she could be in Tokyo.

U.S. police are interested in interviewing her as a person of interest, though not as a suspect.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yoshihide Suga, denounced the mass killing in Las Vegas that has so far claimed 59 lives, and injured at least 527 others.

“We strongly protest this indiscriminate mass killing whatever the reasons may have been behind this, and we would like to express our condolences to the victims and the families of the victims, as well as pray for the speedy recovery of those injured. We also would like to express our solidarity to the United States and the citizens of the United States seeking to overcome these hard times,” he said.

Danley’s boyfriend Stephen Paddock, armed with multiple assault rifles strafed an outdoor country music festival in Las Vegas from a high-rise hotel window on Sunday (October 1), slaughtered at least 59 people in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history before killing himself.

When asked by reporters if the Japanese government knew about Marilou Danley reportedly in Tokyo, Suga said they were not aware of this.

“The government is not aware of this and we have not come across this information,” he said.
