Italy breaks record for world’s longest pizza at Milan Expo

JUNE 23 (Reuters) — A new record for the world’s longest pizza was established by dozens of Italian pizza-makers at Milan’s world fair, Expo 2015, on Saturday (June 20), reaching 1,596 meters in length.

The pizza was made with two and a half tons of dough and seasoned with 1.5 tons of tomato sauce, 1.7 tons of mozzarella and 150 litres of oil.

In a video released by Milan Expo, more than 80 pizza-makers were seen setting up 800 steel tables, where the dough was rolled out and season to make the traditional Italian pizza ‘Margherita’.

The pizza was made in collaboration with ‘La Pizza+1’, a pizza-maker based in the northern Italian city of Piacenza, and the association of ‘Italian National Pizza Makers’, Milan Expo said in a statement.

The Italian group took the world record from pizza-makers in Spain, who stopped at 1141.5 meters in 2011, the Expo said.
