Ilocos Norte’s wind farm developer bags safety award

LAOAG CITY, January 8 (PIA) – The Safety and Health Association of the Philippine Energy Sector conferred the 2014 Shapes Safety Awards to the North Luzon Renewable Energy Corp. (NLREC), the developer and operator of the newly-opened 81-MW wind farm in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

NLREC Chief Operating Officer Miguel de Jesus said the award recognizes energy companies and safety and health professionals for their exceptional performance in the workplace health and safety.

The award is given to companies that have had no lost time accident, a broad and adequate measure of overall health and safety performance, for at least one year, and have had no outstanding safety violation with the Department of Energy (DOE) or the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Recipients of the award must also have had no violation of any DOE or DOLE Safety and Health Laws, Rules and Regulations.

“NLREC is both honored and encouraged to be recognized by this award as it attests to our continuous effort to ensure the health and safety not only the facility and our employees, but also of the communities around us. We thank the Safety and Health Association for this recognition and we hope to continue to improve NLREC’s safety and health practices to match global best practices and standards,” de Jesus said.

The NLREC is owned by AC Energy Holdings, Inc., a fully-owned subsidiary of Ayala Corporation, UPC Renewables, the Macquarie and Philippine Investment Alliance for Infrastructure (PINAI) fund. (MCA/FGL, PIA -1 Ilocos Norte)
