‘Guardians’ holds on to top spot; ‘King Arthur’ falls short

(Reuters)– “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” dominated the top spot for the North American box office for the weekend beginning Friday (May 12) to Sunday (May 14).

The film, held onto the top spot for a second week in a row.

The film which is the second in a series stars Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana.

“Guardian” brought in $63 million over the weekend, driving up its total domestic earnings to $246 million, according to the website boxofficemojo.com.

“Snatched” featuring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn as a mother-daughter duo who are kidnapped while on vacation, took the second place spot.

The film, which debuted over the weekend, brought in $17.5 million in ticket sales.

Director Guy Ritchie’s “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword,” debuted in third place.

“Arthur” featuring Charlie Hunnam in the title role netted nearly $15 million in sales, falling short of the $17.9 million Warner Bros. studios estimated it would make.

“The Fate of the Furious” claimed the fourth place spot, adding $5 million to its international earnings of $1.1 billion dollars.

“The Boss Baby” remained in the top five movies at the North American box office for a seventh straight week.

The animated feature netted $4.6 million over the weekend.
