Gilas Pilipinas throttles past Chinese Taipei; climbs up to second place in rankings

(Eagle News) — Gilas Pilipinas took home the win against team B of Chinese Taipei on Monday in a close game that saw the Philippine contingent trailing its opponent at one point.

The first quarters saw both teams fighting tooth and nail for the lead, prompting an apparently irritated Chot Reyes to dish out a few words to his men, who had  singlehandedly beaten a stronger Chinese Taipei team the day before.

The second half saw a more coordinated Gilas team, who ended up pulling away from Chinese Taipei in the fourth quarter.

The final score was 93-82.

The crucial win prompted Gilas–who was in fifth place in the rankings prior to Monday’s game–to jump up to second place.

Gilas’ next game is against Japan, to be held on Tuesday.
