QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — Tall, dark and handsome with great charisma. One Friday eve, I sat down with John Stevenson Tabangay, who recently gained fame for being the lead actor in the indie film, “Walang Take Two” directed by Carlo Jay Ortega Cuevas who won as best director for this film entry at the 2016 International Filmmaker Festival (IFF) of World Cinema in London.

John Stevenson Tabangay was ecstatic with our interview. By the way, this is his first-time for a solo article after the world premiere of “Walang Take Two” (No Second Take).  He is currently also involved as one of the actors in the film’s situational comedy spin-off “Hapi ang Buhay” which is being shown on NET 25 every Saturday at 4 p.m., and produced by Eagle Broadcasting Corporation.

According to John, he started acting at his locale, in stageplays, until he got discovered for “Walang Take Two” (No Second Take) where he played a struggling film-maker facing personal and family problems.

Let’s find out more about  him and his humble beginings in this interview

What motivates you to become an actor?
What motivates me to become an actor?  First thing is I want to help my family, to help provide for them. Secondly, I was bullied before in school and (with my role in Walang Take Two) I showed them that I can do it. Finally, I thank INCinema and Brother Eduardo V. Manalo for giving me the opportunity to showcase my talent.

Who are your inspirations?
My family inspired me a lot to push me in this kind of career.  They gave me the moral support, and also my friend inside the Church of Christ. In terms of acting, I follow the career of John Lloyd Cruz, he’s a very good actor.

What are your hobbies?
I play volleyball, badminton, track & field. My latest hobby is travelling and exploring the Philippines.

What advise can you share for those who want to do acting?

My advice is this:  “There’s a great friend who told me, ‘Steven always remember that humility is a virtue.’  Guys its very important na tayo ay humble lagi.  Huwag lalaki ang ulo or magiging mayabang and let us all share the blessings na nare-recieve natin.  Sabi nga give and take. So guys, if your passion po ay maging actor/actress, go lang.   God will guide you!”
