Former child star Sawyer Sweeten commits suicide

APRIL 24 (Reuters) — Sawyer Sweeten, who alongside his brother and sister starred as one of Ray Romano’s children in the hit sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” has committed suicide, according to various media reports.

Sweeten, born May 12, 1995, was 19 years old. Various outlets are reporting that during a visit with family in Texas, he shot himself in the head with a shotgun.

Sawyer Sweeten and his real-life twin brother Sullivan Sweeten played on-screen twins Geoffrey Barone and Michael Barone, respectively, in the Emmy-winning series, which ran for nine seasons from 1996 until 2005. The Sawyer twins’ older sister, Madylin Sweeten, also starred in “Raymond” as their on-screen sister Alexandra Barone.

The series about an Italian American family in New York also starred Brad Garrett, Patricia Heaton, Doris Roberts, and Peter Boyle, with Romano cast in the starring role. (News feature by Reuters)
